The introduction of inverter-based resources such as wind and solar to power systems has brought a spotlight onto the deep and complex topic of power quality, although the history of this aspect of power system operation has existed since the first sine waves were generated. This presentation will introduce power quality, its impacts, generator and network requirements, and the mitigation approaches that have been used so far to deal with poor power quality.
Speakers
Joshua Paoli
Joshua has worked in the power industry for seven years, starting out as a graduate engineer at TasNetworks. There, he worked as an asset engineer for 1.5 years scoping distribution substation replacements around Tasmania, before moving into a power system analysis role. His work spanned many aspects of transmission network operation, including assessing generator connections and modifications, developing network constraints, and refining the schemes needed to operate a small power system effectively. I recently started as a senior engineer at the Australian Energy Market Operator working on the technical aspects of system restart across each region of the National Electricity Market.
