SYNOPSIS:
In response to changes to the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) Rules, Synergy launched the Generator Performance Standards (GPS) and Monitoring Plan Project in July 2022. This ambitious initiative aimed to register twenty-three coal and gas thermal generation units in accordance with Appendix 12 of the WEM Rules.
Three years into the project—and despite evolving regulations and numerous technical challenges—Synergy has successfully registered seven GPS to date. With momentum building, the team is on track to complete the remaining submissions by 2025.
In this presentation, Brendan Fidock will share Synergy’s journey through the GPS project. He will provide insights into the project’s approach, key challenges, and lessons learned along the way, offering valuable takeaways for others navigating similar regulatory and technical landscapes.
