Overview
As the use natural ester dielectric fluid continues to gain popularity in the power industry due to the multiple benefits it brings to enhance the safety, sustainability, reliability and loading capacity of power systems, end users and service providers are also eager to understand how transformers filled with such fluid might need to be operated and maintained differently from conventional mineral oil-filled units. Based on the relevant properties of natural ester fluid, this presentation will highlight the critical areas of attention to ensure proper storage, handling and testing of fluid and transformers. In addition, practical pointers relevant to the inspection and repairing of natural ester transformers will also be discussed to demonstrate best practice and to avoid potential pitfalls.
Learning outcomes
- Understanding the key properties of natural ester as compared to conventional mineral oil and how they would affect the practical aspects of operation in general.
- Understanding the key factors in ensuring proper storage, handling, testing of natural ester fluid and transformers
- Ability to grasp some of the important good practices in the operation and maintenance of natural ester transformers
