Synopsis :

We will explore how the new common use transmission infrastructure in the Pilbara is shaping the clean energy required to power Pilbara’s decarbonised future. The NWIS network is set to face unprecedented growth in peak load with commitment from the resources companies to de-carbonise their operations by 2030 and onwards till 2050. This discussion will focus on:

  • Balancing Pilbara’s power system reliability and economic viability balancing network reliability, system strength, spinning reserve and firming required to operate Pilbara’s future network.
  • The challenge we face in developing interarea transmission reinforcements, resource droughts and generation placement.
  • The importance, cost differential, lifecycle benefits, generation build and implementation/operational challenges of the common use power infrastructure development in Pilbara.
